The Digital Entrepreneurship Centre for Port Logistics of the Port of Algeciras Bay (PBA) hosted this September a new training session aimed at the startups participating in the second edition of its Acceleration Programme, an initiative promoted within the framework of Misión Andalucía to foster technological entrepreneurship and innovation in the port and logistics sector.
The session was delivered by Alejandro Herrera and Juan González, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Head of the Data Analytics Information System within the Technology Development Department of the Algeciras Bay Port Authority (APBA), respectively. Both speakers shared with the entrepreneurs a practical perspective on the challenges currently posed by cybersecurity, data management and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in critical infrastructures and highly digitalised environments such as the Port of Algeciras.
During the session, attendees explored key concepts related to the protection of systems and data, technology risk management, emerging threats linked to digital transformation, and the importance of embedding security from the earliest stages of developing innovative products and services. Current trends in information protection, operational resilience and regulatory compliance were also analysed, all of which are becoming increasingly relevant for startups seeking growth and scalability.
In the field of advanced data management, the training provided an overview of the data-driven approach that APBA has been promoting in recent years, as well as its main initiatives in data governance, advanced analytics and AI. Participants were able to discover real examples of projects implemented within the port environment and gain first-hand insight into the guiding principles of the Port Authority’s AI strategy.
This activity forms part of the training pathway designed to complement the specialised support provided to startups participating in the acceleration programme, combining training sessions, mentoring activities and immersion experiences within the port ecosystem. The aim is to provide entrepreneurial projects with a deep understanding of the sector’s real challenges while facilitating the development of solutions aligned with the technological needs of the maritime and port logistics chain.
In addition to acquiring highly valuable technical knowledge, participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences, raise questions and learn first-hand how APBA is approaching its own digital transformation and advanced data management strategy, areas that are increasingly connected to the protection of digital assets, operational continuity and the latest developments in AI.
Through initiatives such as this, the Port of Algeciras Digital Entrepreneurship Centre continues to consolidate its position as a leading hub for applied innovation, bringing together entrepreneurs, experts and organisations around the key technological challenges that will shape the future of logistics and maritime transport.
