The Posidonia Port CDM initiative supported by the Algeciras Port Authority (APBA) has been one of the 9 selected by the Compensation Fund Distribution Committee to receive a grant from the Ports 4.0 Fund created by the Public Body Ports of the State (OPPE) for digitization projects.
Posidonia Port CDM is a tool that allows the exchange of information on port calls and vessel operations in real time between the different agents of the Port Community (terminals, Port Authority, shipping companies) allowing all the agents involved to handle the same information and enabling collaborative and data-based decision making (CDM concept, Collaborative Decision Making). The ultimate goal of this type of tool is to optimize ship calls to the maximum, reducing downtime, as well as reducing the volume of manual communications between the actors involved, such as phone calls or emails.
As explained by the president of the Port Authority, Gerardo Landaluce, the initiative arises from a business need to increase efficiency and safety, reduce uncertainty and provide a global vision of the operations. In this way, Landaluce adds, “the Port of Algeciras is committed to continue at the forefront in digitization, a basic link to maintain the efficiency of our port, recently recognized by the World Bank”.
In 2019 the APBA relied on the company Prodevelop as its technological partner to create a product that could be deployed in a real production environment with guarantees of security, stability, performance and privacy, that is, that could be used continuously without compromising the business of any of its agents. The product is based on the conclusions reached with the Pit Stop Port Operations Project, a previous pilot experience led by the APBA.
Posidonia PortCDM is based on international standards linked to working groups such as the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA), the Port Call Optimization International Taskforce (PCO) or the International PortCDM Council (IPCDMC) that guarantee the validity of the tool in the international market.
From a technological point of view, the solution is deployed in a cloud environment accessed through a universal, standard, reliable and secure API, so its implementation and integration with the different systems of the Port Community agents is simple and agile.
Its user-friendly interface and main dashboard allow you to see at a glance how a scale and its related operations are evolving in real time and how they differ – if any – from what was planned. Also, as the scale evolves, the system can warn of possible problems or inconsistencies in the data handled by each of the parties. In addition, it can automatically calculate performance metrics for each phase of the vessel’s operations in port.
