The Port Authority of the Algeciras Bay (APBA) participated, last June 11, in the VIII edition of the Digital Enterprise Show (DES), which has been held for the last three years at the Trade Fair and Congress Center of Malaga (Fycma).
The exhibition was attended by more than 400 of the leading global technology companies, more than 500 of the world’s top experts who shared their successes related to the digital transformation of organizations, and more than 17,000 visitors who discussed the digital impact on business and the competitiveness of companies.
Under this year’s slogan “Feel The Exponential Intelligence” DES stands, throughout its 3 days of conferences and networking, in the European epicenter of digital innovation, where hundreds of global companies, mainly technological, start-ups, SMEs, entrepreneurs and public institutions explore the current impact, on the Transformation and Digital Economy, of disruptive technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, IoT or Cybersecurity.
In addition to positioning itself as a B2B platform for the creation of new opportunities among its attendees, the event is articulated around a World Digital Business Congress with more than 375 sessions, distributed around 8 auditoriums, and organized under 8 verticals among which are the CEO & Leadership Summit, the CIO Summit, the Digitalization and Modernization of Public Administration Forum, Tech Series, The Scale-Up! World Summit or the Industry Forums.
In particular, the APBA participated in this last vertical, with a presentation entitled “Exponential technologies in logistics: a success story“, by Jesús Medina, Head of the Technological Development Area, which explored how cutting-edge technologies are successfully redefining the port-logistics landscape.
Medina delved, during his presentation, into the concept of Port Collaborative Decision Making (PortCDM) and the use of digital Port Community tools to improve efficiency and optimize the processes of ship calls. According to Medina, the standardization of events and processes, their digitization and the exchange of real-time and predictive information are key to the coordination of the agents involved in the process of port calls and, ultimately, to the promotion of “Just-in-Time” (JIT) calls. An optimization that reduces the waiting time of ships and increases operational efficiency, while promoting the decarbonization of the industry by reducing the generation of emissions.
