The 30th of November, as part of the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the national port system, Puertos del Estado held the conference Ports 4.0 – Ports of the future, an event with its sights set on the upcoming decades, marked by technological transformation and the challenges that are yet to come.
More than 300 guests took part in a celebration that left no one indifferent, as the attendees, in addition to remembering how the path has been taken over so many years to transform the port system, betting on security, transparency and multiplying all the opportunities for economic and social development, were also able to enjoy a spectacular concert of classical music by the Albéniz Foundation.
The event was chaired by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, the President of Puertos del Estado, Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena, and the Secretary of State for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda of MITMA, Isabel Pardo de Vera.
Rodríguez Dapena had a few words of thanks for the long journey of the entity: “Today we celebrate the enormous transformation of the Spanish ports in these 30 years and we look to the future, with innovation, sustainability and people as the pillars that will guide our course”. For her side, Raquel Sánchez emphasised that the 16 strategic lines and the 56 general management objectives of the state port system are aligned with the Mitma’s Strategy for safe, sustainable and connected mobility and with the European Green Deal. The Minister also took advantage of her speech to highlight the importance of the coordinating role of Puertos de Estado and the collaboration and institutional loyalty of the 28 Port Authorities, converting the ports into “driving centres of activity that provide added value to goods and are fully integrated in the logistics and intermodal chains”. For this reason, he positively valued the activity data for 2022, which will end with traffic levels comparable to those of 2019, with 564 million tonnes.
On behalf of the APBA, its President, Gerardo Landaluce, participated in the round table on innovation in the context of the strategic framework of the port system, moderated by Alvaro Rodriguez Dapena and Manuel Arana Burgos, with the participation of the presidents of the ports of Valencia, Bilbao and Cadiz.
During the same, Landaluce made known the 3 focuses on which the renewed Innovation Strategy of the APBA is centred, (1) Competitiveness and logistics orchestration, (2) Sustainability and climate neutrality and (3) Innovation and talent. In his speech, the President also gave, as an example of collaboration and open innovation, the traceability of the Strait, by which the clients know perfectly where their goods are in the commercial exchanges between the Port of Algeciras and Tangier Med. In addition, he stressed that for the APBA “it is strategic to promote, capture and care for talent” and took the opportunity to present the initiatives of the APBA in this area and also claim for more dialogue between administrations and more means for port authorities to expand their teams with specialized staff.
