The Port Authority of the Algeciras Bay (APBA) participated, last Tuesday 18 April, in the conference of the Working Group of the ports of the Corridor of the Mediterranean Core Network of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), organised by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructures of the Republic of Croatia and the Port Authority of Rijeka, which was held in the congress hall of the Hilton Costabella Hotel in Rijeka.
The Working Group on Ports was created by the Directorate General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission for the Mediterranean Corridor of the TEN-T Network, and brings together representatives from all the countries through which the Mediterranean Corridor runs from Spain, France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Hungary, as well as different stakeholders from the multimodal transport system.
The event was opened by Iveta Radičová, European Coordinator of the Mediterranean Core Network Corridor, and Josip Bilaver, State Secretary of the Croatian Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.
After the opening of the session, the two round tables organised for the day were opened, where the different members of the TEN-T Corridor who participated were able to present joint initiatives, exchange points of view and impressions and assess the current challenges, with the aim of improving the quality of one of the main freight corridors of the European Union.
Marko Boban, Head of the Strategic Planning and Project Development Service of the Croatian Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructures, Antonio Revedin, Director of Strategic Planning and Development of the Venice Port Authority, and Carles Rúa, Head of Innovation of Barcelona Port Authority, who attended on this occasion on behalf of the Port Authorities of Algeciras, Valencia and Barcelona, took part in the first of them. The latter gave a presentation on behalf of the Port Authorities of Algeciras, Valencia and Barcelona on how the Emissions Trading System (ETS) may affect Spanish ports in the Mediterranean in the future.
This was followed by the second round table, with the participation of Alexandre Sánchez, Head of the Port Community System of the Port Authority of Valencia, Borut Čok, Head of the Strategic Development Area of the Port of Koper, Philippe Guillaumet, International Relations Manager of the Port of Marseille, and Jesús Medina, Chief Information & Innovation Officer of the APBA.
During his intervention, Medina dealt with the concept of Port Collaborative Decision Making (PortCDM) and the use of Port Community digital tools to improve efficiency and optimise vessel port call processes. According to Medina, the standardisation of events and processes, their digitisation and the exchange of real-time and predictive information are key to the coordination of the agents involved in the port call process and, ultimately, to the promotion of Just-in-Time arrivals.
