The Algeciras Port Authority actively participated in the 11th edition of the European Forum Transfiere 2022, the main R&D&I meeting in Southern Europe.
This forum, which was held on February 16 and 17, 2022 at the Trade Fairs and Congress Center of Malaga, is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the CDTI, the City of Malaga and the Andalusian Knowledge Agency, under the Andalusian Government, to share scientific and technological knowledge, promote innovation and connect the scientific community with the business ecosystem.
The APBA, through Jesús Medina, Head of the Technological Development Area, participated in a round table scheduled in the Open Innovation Area, a space focused on startups, spinoffs and research groups, with entrepreneurship and open innovation as protagonists and which hosts presentations of success stories, investor rounds and workshops.
The round table, entitled “Myths and legends of Open Innovation in the port-logistics ecosystem”, allowed attendees to learn first-hand how Port Authorities are facing the challenge of open innovation. For this, Medina was accompanied by Mafran Martinez, CTO of the Port Authority of Huelva and Elisa Oyonarte Gómez, Head of European Funds of the Port Authority of Seville. The round table was moderated by José Antonio González-Florido, Head of Digital Transformation at Telefónica Sur.
During his speech, Medina highlighted the objectives of innovation in the APBA as competitiveness and logistics orchestration, sustainability and climate neutrality and innovation and talent. Likewise, he highlighted that the real support of the Management and the systematization of the complete innovation process are the keys to constitute an innovative Port Authority. He also warned about the risk of falling into an innovation “bubble” if the origin of innovation and its necessary alignment with the achievement of corporate strategic objectives are forgotten. Finally, he focused on artificial intelligence, the internet of things and advanced communications such as 5G as the pillars in the coming years of technological innovation in the APBA.
In total, Transfiere was attended by more than 600 companies, public administrations and international innovation driving entities, which developed more than 130 activities and thematic panels on European funding for R&D&I projects, new models of entrepreneurship, digital transformation and scientific knowledge transfer.
