The Algeciras Port Authority, represented by Jesús Medina, Head of the Technological Development Area, and Enrique Martín, Director of the Innovation Office, participated in the new edition of the Smart Ports of the Future 2022 event that took place in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) on May 11 and 12.
The event, which brought together more than 300 attendees and 50 speakers from more than 20 countries, focused on showcasing the technologies that are transforming ports, ranging from discussions on standardization and data exchange to presentations of the most advanced success stories on how ports are harnessing the potential of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Twins and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The two days have been structured around different panels where several experts in logistics, trade and technology have analyzed the main trends and challenges facing the shipping industry. Specifically, Medina has participated in the session “Digital Twin – Real World Results”, focused on analyzing:
- How such technology can be used to create a risk-free environment, improve efficiency and eliminate costly errors.
- The usefulness in generating agile test scenarios and increasing visibility into ports.
- The suitability of digital twins depending on the size of the ports.
The speakers who have been part of the session with the Port of Algeciras have been: Christian Blauert, Global Director of Ports and Terminals at Moffatt & Nichol, Andrea Minardi, CIO of the Port of Ravenna, Karri Koistinen, Sales Director at GISGRO and Terry Bills, Global Director of Transportation at Esri.
During the two-day event, various topics of interest were discussed, including the adoption of autonomous vehicles, the role of artificial intelligence in smart ports, efficiency and sustainability, and the importance of people in the transition to smart ports 4.0.
