Last Thursday, September 19, the Innovation Committee of the Port of Algeciras held its third quarterly meeting, gathering its Vocal Members and Expert Advisors to continue promoting collaborative innovation in its logistics-port ecosystem.
Jesús Medina, Head of the Technological Development Area of the APBA and President of the Committee itself, was in charge of opening this new meeting, which continued with the presentation of two new members: the Chamber of Commerce of Campo de Gibraltar and OnNet Center, as Vocal Member and Expert Advisor, respectively.
Then, the new web tool for the internal management of the Committee’s activity was shown and a new solution was presented within the usual “Innovations by Algeciras” section. On this occasion, Jesús García, co-founder of ESES-Connectainer, presented his innovative modular container solution, designed to address one of the main challenges of current maritime transport: the management of empty containers. García detailed the current status of the project and the results obtained in the framework of the ePIcenter project, where they collaborated with the Port Authority of the Algeciras Bay (APBA) and the semi-automated container terminal Total Terminal International Algeciras (TTI Algeciras).
The central part of the session revolved around the promotion of innovation projects, where the Technological Corporation of Andalusia (CTA), the Chamber of Commerce of Campo de Gibraltar and the Innovation Office of the APBA, were responsible for presenting lines and funding mechanisms, such as the Incentive Program for R+D+i of CTA, the Calls for aid to SMEs managed by the Chamber of Commerce or the 3rd call of the Pre-commercial Projects of the Ports 4.0 Fund, promoted by the Public Agency of State Ports.
