Between 7th and 10th of November, the Gartner IT Symposium|XPO Congress, took place in Barcelona, an international reference event focused on exploring the strategic trends and technologies that drive innovation and digital transformation to shape the future of organisations and businesses.
The event, held at the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB), brought together more than 7,000 IT leaders from Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), being the Port Authority of the Algeciras Bay represented by its Chief Information Officer, Jesús Medina.
During the four-day event, attendees enjoyed a unique programme designed specifically for digital leaders to focus on business, technology and leadership development. In addition, they had the opportunity to connect with experts and leading-edge solution providers, as well as with their counterparts in different regions and industries, allowing them to gain new perspectives on the challenges and opportunities of digital business and discover innovative ways to address these challenges, make confident decisions and become more effective leaders.
As a remarkable fact, during the opening speech of the event, the most prestigious and called Gartner Opening Keynote, titled on this occasion “Make the Difference”, the Port of Algeciras was named by Daniel Sánchez Reina VP Analyst of the American consultancy, as one of the examples of Intelligent Connected Infrastructure (ICI), as it is already applying technological tools based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, 5G and Virtual and Augmented Reality, to reduce waiting times for ships and, consequently, polluting gas emissions.
