The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) was present, last Wednesday, September 20th, in the I Innovation and Digital Transformation Fair, framed in the project “Campo de Gibraltar in digital 2023”; and which contemplates a series of actions aimed at promoting innovation and business digitalization, with the objective of achieving an improvement in the competitiveness of the companies of the Region.
The meeting, held in the facilities of the Chamber of Commerce itself, was supported by the DipuActiva Plan 2020-2022 through the area of Coordination and Strategic, Productive and Social Development of the Provincial Council of Cadiz. The event was aimed at disseminating trends, sharing knowledge and connecting entrepreneurs, organizations and the general public to learn about technological solutions and strategic projects for the region.
The institutional welcome was given by Carlos Fenoy, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Campo de Gibraltar, who stressed the importance of “encouraging SMEs and entrepreneurs to definitely enter the world of innovation and new technologies”. Then began the first block of presentations by renowned experts such as Silvia Leal, advisor to the European Commission in Digital Skills; Antonio Pérez, from the National Cryptologic Center; Francisco Javier Gómez, specialist in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data; and Ami Bondía, expert in personal branding and digital trends. They covered aspects such as the urgent need to innovate in the business world, the challenges and threats posed by cybersecurity, how smart cities are being transformed and the tools and attitudes necessary for success in the digital era, respectively.
Particularly, the APBA was the protagonist of the exhibition space of the event, specifically, it was represented by Juan Antonio Herrera, Head of Innovation of the APBA, and Ignacio Serra, member of the Technical Office of Innovation of the APBA. They highlighted the strategic commitment of the organization in terms of innovation, highlighting different success stories of technological and disruptive projects, and underlining the implementation of initiatives in favor of the revitalization and coordination of open innovation of the logistics-port ecosystem, such as the Innovation Committee of the Port of Algeciras. Likewise, the Fair was the official launching of the recently published Innovation Report 2022 of the APBA.
The Algeciras institution was accompanied in this exhibition space by organizations with a strong presence in the Port Community and the technology sector, such as Acerinox, NextPort or WISeKey.
Finally, during the afternoon, the second block took place, which included a series of workshops on generative artificial intelligence tools, immersive gamification and STEAM methodologies.
