On October 2, the Public Body Puertos del Estado approved, through the Distribution Committee of the Interport Compensation Fund, the provisional resolution for the modality of pre-commercial projects, in accordance with the 2nd Call of the Ports 4.0 Fund.
On this occasion, the public body has endowed this category of projects with a total of 11.1 million euros; budget that has allowed to subsidize 30 initiatives of the 116 applications submitted.
Among the proposals that have been beneficiaries, there are 6 initiatives supported by the Algeciras Port Authority (APBA), 20% of the total number of subsidized projects, which are added to the 4 proposals that had previously been selected in the categories of ideas and commercial projects.
Specifically, the projects selected in this pre-commercial modality are:
- Docking Assitant (Company: Ghenova): which proposes a Smart docking solution based on berthing assistance for RO-Pax vessels through the use of LiDAR technology.
- SiMU-PORT (Company: ISOIN): which proposes the development of a digital platform focused on the optimization of logistics-port operations, associated with the movement of people and vehicles in Ro-Pax traffic, through the hybridization of simulation and artificial intelligence.
- Carbon Wave Gauge (Companies: Adecua and VTI): project focused on developing a novel portable carbon probe to measure waves and tides (and other parameters) in real-time and much more accurately than currently available systems.
- NextPort Digital Twin (Company: NextPort, of Moffat&Nichol): development of a digital twin with predictive and prescriptive capabilities for the orchestration of port operations.
- MarineHound Autonomous Sulphur Sniffer System (Company: Marine Hound): based on the development of an innovative gas analyzer that, located on a buoy, is able to autonomously monitor ship emissions and determine if they are using legal low sulfur fuel.
- SubDrill JC (Company: GEM): design and development of a parameter meter for the sensorization of the Vibrocorer equipment, dedicated to subsea subsurface inspections.
APBA received and analyzed a total of 26 pre-commercial project proposals, of which, after the relevant analysis, it decided to support 17 initiatives. It is worth highlighting the organization’s commitment to promote the adoption of innovative projects and disruptive technologies in its logistics-port ecosystem, since in 14 of them APBA undertook to act as a facilitating agent.
Finally, it should be noted that the Distribution Committee itself approved, during its last session, the new budget that will allow launching new calls for the Ports 4.0 Fund, with an allocation of 18 million euros, before the end of 2023, in the case of commercial ideas and projects, and in 2024, for pre-commercial projects.
