SCAI Engineering is a Barcelona-based technology startup that develops embedded systems and intelligent connectivity solutions to drive future mobility and smart cities. Its technology acts as a bridge between vehicles, infrastructure, and cloud ecosystems, enabling real-time data exchange, intelligent automation, and safer, more efficient urban environments.
Specializing in high-performance modular systems, SCAI Engineering designs solutions for large-scale urban challenges, ranging from environmental sensing and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication to fleet and traffic management in low-emission zones. Its proposal is embodied in VICU (Vehicle–Infrastructure Communication Unit), an intelligent edge node that enables secure, bidirectional communication between vehicles, infrastructure, and the cloud.
VICU integrates interfaces such as CAN, OBD-II, Ethernet, and hybrid connectivity (WiFi, 4G/5G, LoRaWAN, SatCom), ensuring coverage in urban, rural, and port environments. Its robust architecture allows installation in both vehicles and critical infrastructure, and its embedded software modules manage events, diagnostics, and OTA updates, facilitating real-time decision-making at the edge.
The platform includes a cloud dashboard with telemetry visualization, fleet analytics, emissions and safety monitoring, as well as mobile apps for drivers and managers. VICU is already being deployed in pilot programs in Spain and Germany, with applications in Smart Cities (traffic management, emissions detection), Smart Mobility (eco-driving, predictive analytics), and Smart Ports (container traceability, geofencing, operational resilience).
SCAI Engineering’s mission is to connect vehicles, cities, and ports through a secure, scalable, and sustainable digital infrastructure, replacing fragmented solutions with a unified platform that integrates hardware, SaaS, and open APIs, aligned with standards such as ISO 21434, ISO 26262, and GDPR.
