The objective is to develop a high-resolution model to characterize the currents inside the port docks and, on the other hand, to resolve the anomalies observed in the former hydrodynamic model developed for the Strait of Gibraltar and the Bay of Algeciras (SAMPA) validate it, and nest the high-resolution model with the hydrodynamic SAMPA model.
Likewise, environmental modules have been developed by developing simulation models for the traceability of particles within the Bay, which allows to analyse the quality of the internal waters and to know the water renewal time in the port area.
The high-resolution hydrodynamic model will be very useful for the development of tools oriented to the prevention, monitoring and control of spills in port areas.
Development period: 2014-2016
Innovation of the project:
- Hydrodynamic model that solves the port dynamics and allows the development of added value tools based on the results of the model.
Products of the project:
- Hydrodynamic model for the prediction of currents in the operational areas of interest of the Algeciras Port
- Water quality sheets in the 8 UGAPs.
You can check the water quality sheets and the renewal times of the UGAPs by clicking here.
Usability /application:
- Environmental management in matters of prevention, monitoring and control of spills.
- Port water quality (ROM 5.1)
