Summary:
The objective is to develop a specific operations management ICT tool for the Strait of Gibraltar Crossing Operation (OPE, in Spanish). This ICT platform/tool allows monitoring in real time the utilization rate of the temporary storage areas (parking) and managing port mobility more efficiently, taking care of any incident and guaranteeing maximum quality of service.
This platform is used for monitoring vehicle parking areas during the period OPE through a scorecard and, therefore, to support decision-making at operative level. This platform is connected to two mobile applications that automates the data collection process and, therefore, control the vehicle flow through the gates and internal roads of the port.
In turn, the platform displays useful information for the passenger through the website or the information panels, such as waiting times, the utilization rate of storage areas and vehicles traffic flow.
Innovation of the project:
- Real time monitoring of utilization of parking areas for the passenger vehicles, traffic flow through gates and internal roads and an estimation of waiting times.
- Development of mobile applications for Port Police with the purpose of facilitating the management and organization of OPE operations.
