Summary:
The objective of the BrainPort Analytics project is to develop a methodology to monitor operational processes and procedures by using an efficient sensor network at Algeciras and Tarifa Ports and, on the other hand, to develop a data analytical system based on Big-Data and Business Intelligence (BI) to process large volumes of data.
This methodology has been useful to get a detailed knowledge of port processes, to identify information gaps, improve data quality, get real time data and connect it to main information systems in order to get accurate information and support decision-making processes.
In particular; the project has focused on Ro-Ro traffic (trucks and trailers) and the Crossing of the Strait Operation with special emphasis on inland operations.
Innovation of the project:
- Development and implementation of an analytical tool (BrainPort Analytics) that allows to store and analyse large volumes of data as regards to port operations in order to support decision making.
- Implementation of a vehicle counting system using magnetometer devices.
Products of the project:
- Map of operational processes for Ro-Ro and OPE traffic in Algeciras and Tarifa Port.
- Sensoring methodology for process monitoring in port environments.
- Technological platform for storing large volumes of data using the MongoDB platform (Big Data environment).
- Business intelligence (BI) platform based on Qlikview, to analyse and monitor a set of performance indicators.
Usability /application
- Strait of Gibraltar Crossing Operation (passenger vehicles)
- Ro-Ro cargo traffic
