The Algeciras Port Authority (APBA) has renewed, for another year, the certification of its Innovation Management System, which it first obtained in December 2019. On this occasion, the renewal has marked a significant milestone: the transition and adaptation of the system to ISO 56001, the international standard that replaces the historic UNE 166002 and establishes the requirements for innovation management.
ISO 56001:2024, which is recognised globally, provides a framework that enables organisations to integrate innovation into their strategy, processes and culture, ensuring a systematic and sustainable approach. In addition, this standard follows a harmonised structure compatible with other management system standards, enabling the Port Authority to align and integrate its innovation management system with the rest of the systems implemented in the organisation, in order to take advantage of synergies and improve overall management efficiency. With this adaptation, the APBA reinforces its leadership in innovation management in the port sector, aligning itself with international best practices and enhancing its ability to generate value in an increasingly competitive environment.
This advance underscores the APBA’s firm commitment to evolving towards more robust, excellence-oriented management models, ensuring continuous improvement and efficiency in the conception, development and execution of innovative projects. In addition, the transition to ISO 56001 promotes the incorporation of new tools and methodologies that strengthen key areas such as knowledge management, open innovation and collaboration with the port ecosystem.
With this certification, the APBA reaffirms its vision of a Next Generation Port, consolidating a mature, competitive and sustainable innovation system that contributes to the economic and social development of the surrounding area and responds to the present and future challenges of the logistics and port sector.
