The Algeciras Port Authority (APBA), together with representatives of Puertos del Estado, the ports of Valencia, Barcelona, Huelva and Castellón and the companies Siemens, Nokia, Prodevelop, GMV and Signify, took part last Thursday 16 June in the Smart Ports Forum, the sixth edition of a forum organized by Executive Forum, which also had the collaboration of the Spanish Transport Association (AET) and Eurotech.
The day, in which ports and shipping agents share innovation and trends, consisted of two blocks of participants, moderated and introduced by Juan Manuel Martinez, Vice President of the AET. In the first, Manuel Arana, Director of Planning and Development of Puertos del Estado, presented the strategic lines that have been proposed for the new Strategic Framework of the Spanish port system, currently being processed. Among them, he made special mention of those that put the focus on digital port administration and innovative ports, respectively. Arana also mentioned the three calls of the Port 4.0 Fund, highlighting that it is an “adopted model of corporate open innovation to attract, support and facilitate the application of talent and entrepreneurship to the Spanish public and private logistics-port sector”.
On behalf of the APBA, Jesús Medina, Head of the Technological Development Area, pointed out that digitalization continues to be a key factor in the transformation of the port logistics sector. In this context, he referred to the “digital ambition” with which the Port of Algeciras faces its evolution process to become a Smart Port orchestrator of operations, as well as the importance of the human factor to successfully carry out this transformation.
In addition, to close the first block, the APBA also participated in a round table with Juan Manuel Diez, Head of Planning, Strategy and Innovation of the Port Authority of Valencia, David Ramos and Raul Salinas, from Siemens Spain, and Jaime Figueras and Alfredo Martinez, from Nokia Enterprise.
Finally the second block of the Smart Ports Forum featured Carles Rua, Head of Innovation of the Port of Barcelona, Pepe Ferri, Partner and Business Development Director of Prodevelop, Manuel Francisco Martínez, Head of the Technology Department of the Port Authority of Huelva, Manuel Gómez Langley, Business Partners SPD-Critical Infrastructure of GMV, Mª José Rubio, Head of the Blue Growth Department of the Port of Castellón and Igor Soto, member of the Public Sector Marketing Department of Signify.
