The Algeciras Bay Port Authority (APBA) has developed an application for mobile devices addressed to the passengers of the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa (Cadiz) which offers information in real time about the ships’ schedules, the state of the embarkations/disembarkations, the assigned berth number, the shipping company or the ship which will cover the service.
In this way, passengers traveling on the lines Algeciras-Ceuta, Algeciras-Tangier Med and Tarifa-Tangier can now have on their cell phone, and in a single app, all the necessary information to improve the planning of their journeys and optimize and speed up their passage through the port facilities. This tool, whose information is also available in English and French, will also benefit heavy traffic drivers who daily cross the Strait of Gibraltar.
As explained the president of the APBA, Gerardo Landaluce, “we continue betting on innovation in all areas of our port and, in this case, the objective we seek with this new tool is to improve the quality of service and optimize the transit of passengers and goods through the port area”.
It is worth noting that, in the first week after its launch in the Apple and Google stores, the application already exceeded 2,300 downloads.
In 2022, despite the closure of the border with Morocco until April, the ports managed by the APBA recorded the passage of 4.4 million passengers, almost 1 million passenger vehicles and more than 460,000 trucks. Given this scenario, the Port Authority has developed this application with the purpose of offering an intuitive and friendly system that provides a new communication channel to the passengers of the Strait, adding to the existing ones, such as the Information Service, which has digital panels in the maritime stations of Algeciras and Tarifa, or the information provided by the port institution through its official profiles in social networks.
