Last February 12, the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) and the University of Cadiz (UCA) celebrated the launch of the second edition of the University Expert Course in Digital Transformation Applied to Port Logistics. This postgraduate university degree, promoted and organized by both institutions, highlights the excellent collaboration between entities, port and academic, reflecting its vocation to connect with the socio-economic fabric of the region of Campo de Gibraltar, from its commitment to a dual training model to serve the needs of qualification and innovation of companies in the logistics-port ecosystem.
This second edition gives continuity to this academic program of specialization, after the success achieved in the previous course and reinforces the lines of action of the initiative Algeciras Port Digital Academy, led by the APBA, where the Course is framed. Specifically, the University Expert seeks to train, in digital matters, non-technological university staff and professionals of the Port Community, allowing them to redirect their careers towards the technology sector and/or lead the digital transformation of their companies, as part of an overall objective of promoting the creation, attraction and retention of local digital talent.
During the launching ceremony, the president of the APBA, Gerardo Landaluce, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, which enables the creation of value through knowledge and its application in the maritime, port and business fields. Likewise, Landaluce has remarked the relevance of teamwork in an interconnected world, stressing that the union with the UCA represents a clear example of collaborative work and joint efforts towards common goals.
The course, which for the first time will be held at its official headquarters, the UCA-SEA Innovation Center, is organized jointly by the UCA and the APBA, directed by Professor Ignacio Turias and co-directed by the head of the Technological Development Area of the APBA, Jesús Medina. It is also sponsored by the technology consulting firm Sopra Steria.
Its training program is aimed at university graduates and graduates in all areas of knowledge, and students pending completion of their studies this academic year with 30 ETCS credits remaining, promoting the integration of different disciplines in port digitization.
For his part, Medina himself has stated that this course ensures a direct alignment with the current needs and challenges of the port sector and that the cooperation between academic and port entities reflects a faithful commitment to adapt and lead the organizational course in the digital era, providing professionals with essential tools and knowledge for their development in a dynamic context.
As for its contents, these are segmented into three main blocks: Port Management and Logistics (basic aspects of the sector, protagonists of port traffic, freight traffic, governance, competition and competitiveness, port and intermodal infrastructures or railroad management), Innovation and Digital Transformation in Ports (digital transformation in the port sector, innovation, enabling technologies, digital transformation strategies and innovation in the Port of Algeciras or digital ecosystem) and Process Management and Simulation (project management, Agile Scrum development methodologies, merging teams, introduction to Locode/Nocode/BPM/RPA and process simulation).
